With the holidays in full swing, there are parties to attend, meals to cook, presents to wrap, and many other things to worry about than pests.

Unfortunately, the holidays are a prime time for pests to make an unwelcome appearance. Prevent common holiday pest control problems by:

1. Check boxes of holiday decorations before bringing them out of storage from places like an attic or garage. Check for droppings, wings, or other evidence of pests.
2. Inspect live Christmas trees before purchasing, they can be infested with weevils or mites. After bringing the tree home, keep the tree watered. If there are any pests living in the tree, they are likely to stay in or on a well-watered tree until you discard.
3. When traveling, inspect mattresses for evidence of bed bugs and keep your suitcases off of the floor and away from the wall.
4. While hanging holiday decorations outside, take the time to fill in cracks and crevices to keep rodents out.
5. Keep food in airtight containers to prevent household pests, such as roaches and ants, from being attracted to your holiday treats.
6. Having guests at your home? Invest in mattress protectors to protect you and your guests from bed bugs.
7. Wood burning fireplace? Check wood for bugs before bringing it inside.
